The Martin Jol era is over.
I’m certain there are many Spurs fans like me, who honestly feel he should have been given longer to prove himself given what he’s achieved in the last 2.5 years at Spurs (top 5 finishes and a great points average).
The way he was sacked though was terrible, Levy has every right to be ashamed of himself.
Conceding yet another injury time goal yesterday meant we lost to Blackburn. With Ramos taking over from this morning, we have an FA Cup tie against Blackpool midweek – surely too soon for him to have sorted out the defensive frailties?
And with the new management team will surely come the January clearout – rumour has it Robbo is going, but can we hang onto Berbatov? and what about Defoe? both absolute stars (I personally think Keane would rather cut of his head than leave Spurs).
I know I’m not alone when I say I don’t want mid-table mediocrity – I want at least a top 5 finish, or even finish what Jol started so well and steer us into Champion’s League football.
COYS!
When I say predictable, I mean what I’m gonna blog about and not England losing out (again).
First the football
then the rugby
then Lewis Hamilton failing to secure the F1 title.
I’m sure I’m not alone in putting the blame for the football squarely on McClaren’s shoulders (prick should’ve had Defoe on the bench – that’s who we needed with 10 minutes to go, someone fast and with a taste for goals).
As for the rugby, well, what the hell was wrong with that try? I must’ve seen it from every possible angle and it was clearly a good try – his foot was not over the line when the ball went down – in the pub where I watched it, there was nobody in any doubt that it was a try – look, even the 2nd and 3rd in line to the throne thought so:

And then to finish off the sports week from hell, Lewis Hamilton (local boy – from just down the road from me), failed to secure the world title. On a plus note though, at 22, he certainly is a future champion.
So sportwise the week wasn’t too good, but this can be turned around tonight when Spurs play Newcastle. COYS!
At least I had Harriett to cheer me up
Whilst moving between offices this morning, I happened upon TGND so settled in for a bit of a geeky chat.
It all started promisingly:
“Have you heard of Geek Squad?” he asks.
“It rings a vague bell.” says I.
“I’m gonna call them and have a dictaphone to record them…” he goes on, with an evil smirk.
“Why’s that?” I enquire.
“I’m gonna ask them some questions regarding Linux, and when they say they don’t do Linux, I’m gonna say ‘What kind of geeks are you? you’re not geeks, you’re nerds!’”
I had to agree with him there.
The conversation then went on with me noting that there was only 1/2 hour and an hour until the weekend (I have no idea why I said it that way either).
This led him to (mildly) rant about how old people say strange things regarding time: “5 and 20 to 4.” and such.
Somehow this led to us discussing whether time would exist after the end of the world (I know, I know). Personally I think it would:
“What’s the time now?”
“20 minutes past the end of the world…”
“Damn, did you set the video for Eastenders?”
Random Fridays – I love ‘em
Oh I know everyone who reads this is aware who Corina is…my co-worker and the person who single handedly ensures mucho hilarity in the workplace
Well, today she didn’t fail to (almost) make me wet myself laughing…
It all started on Thursday last week – she was wanting to close off the accounts for the end of September (our year end too) and was having trouble balancing the totals – she was 5p out.
Now, personally, I’d have just shrugged and written it off, but for some reason Corina thought she’d find it. And so Thursday, Friday and Monday she tried – to no avail.
This morning, I (being the helpful soul I am) asked if there was anything I could do to help. “Yes,” she says “‘If you wouldn’t mind adding these figures to make sure I didn’t total them wrong.”
So I fire up Excel and enter the figures – credits, debits and total them – getting the correct figure.
Now when I tell Corina, she doesn’t believe me, so I print off the page. She checks the list of figures and can’t work out why she has a different total.
Did I mention I’m a helpful chap? well, I tell her to give me her list and I’ll compare it to mine.
Within 10 seconds of me getting her list I said “I’ve solved your problem…”
“What was it?” says Corina.
“Well, you never specified Excel to treat the columns as having 2 decimal places, so it’s rounded up the total.”
I then formatted her columns as 2 decimal places and lo and behold – the correct figure appeared.
Poor girl didn’t know whether to thank me or cry…
Bless her.
